NSW: Blazes extinguished but firefighters remain on high alert

Firefighters extinguished two major blazes in western Sydney but remain on stand-by
with temperatures set to soar in the next few days.

More than 70 firefighters battled the two fires that burnt out almost 100 hectares yesterday.

The fires caused traffic chaos for peak-hour commuters as hot winds fanned smoke across
the nearby M4 motorway.

The first fire broke out about 3.30pm (AEDT) at Wallgrove Road adjacent to Australia's
Wonderland theme park near Blacktown.
